Company History
LearnTheMoney – Financial Literacy Infrastructure for Underserved Communities
LearnTheMoney is a financial education initiative dedicated to treating financial literacy as essential public infrastructure, not a luxury service. Founded in Texas by financial analyst and educator Alimursal (Ali) Ibrahimov, CFEI®, LearnTheMoney designs and delivers research-based, practical financial education programs for students, working adults, and justice-involved individuals across South Texas and beyond. Our programs are built to meet learners where they are whether in classrooms, community centers, or inside county jails and to equip them with tools they can start using immediately in their daily lives.
At the core of LearnTheMoney’s work is a commitment to evidence-based curriculum and measurable outcomes. Drawing on Ibrahimov’s background in instructional design, educational technology, and finance, we build learning experiences that are clear, engaging, and grounded in real-world decisions. Our courses focus on the practical fundamentals: creating and living by a budget, understanding and managing debt, using credit wisely, building savings, and planning for key life transitions such as reentry after incarceration. Programs are adapted for different audiences, from college students just starting their financial journey to adults navigating complex financial challenges.
LearnTheMoney’s flagship initiative, “Second Chance Money Skills,” delivers structured, trauma-informed financial education to justice-involved women and men, helping them prepare for financial life after release. In 2026, this program was named the global winner of the “Closing the Gender Gap” category at the Money Awareness and Inclusion Awards (MAIAs), an internationally recognized awards program that celebrates effective financial literacy and inclusion initiatives from more than 40 countries. This recognition underscores our belief that high-quality, research-informed financial education can create meaningful change for those most affected by financial instability and systemic barriers.
Our work has been featured by media outlets including Benzinga and major South Texas news organizations, which have highlighted LearnTheMoney’s role in bringing award-winning financial literacy programming into communities and correctional settings. Across all projects, our mission remains consistent: to build accessible, durable financial literacy infrastructure that empowers people – especially those in underserved and justice-involved communities – to make informed decisions, reduce financial stress, and pursue long-term financial well-being for themselves and their families.
