Personal Notes

Money life-skills matter!

I spent 35 years of my life bouncing from one financial struggle to another. The oldest daughter of a young Air Force father, we moved repeatedly before settling in Ohio, near its failing steel factories.

Growing up, I YEARNED for more. However, with three siblings, college was outside my grasp.

After high school, I married a man with three young children. Two kids later, our life remained arduous – barely scraping by.

In 1993, calamity struck. We BOTH lost our jobs the same week! At a dire cross-roads…I vowed to stop this desperate cycle AND help others too!

Bio

Debbie Todd is a “spunky CPA” and the founder of 1 Hour Impact.com, a dynamic online money stewardship lifeplan learning and guided resource community. 1 Hour Impact is devoted to providing practical, online and local in-person financial education in bite-sized chunks – which is understandable, family-friendly and yes, even FUN! Debbie is an NFEC Certified Financial Education Instructor.

As shared above, Debbie has lived through years of sleepless nights, worrying how to pay the bills month after month, as well as that frustration and hopelessness of not knowing how to make life better for herself or her family.

After losing her job in 1993, Debbie decided to take dramatic action for her family’s future. She graduated in 1997 with high honors from Central Washington University, double-majoring in Accounting and Finance, with a minor in Economics. With four children at home, Debbie had to balance being a student, a wife and mom. She was one of the pioneers using live interactive distance higher education to complete her degrees.

During the next 4 years, Debbie worked as a certified public accountant in a small firm, helping families and small businesses “get and keep their financial house in order,” with all aspects of their personal and corporate finances, including taxes. It was there she learned first-hand that money troubles occurred at all income and social levels – and that there’s a whole generation of “rich and poor kids” about to careen off the financial cliff.

From 2001 through 2013, Debbie worked for a public utility as well as the academic medical fields, managing all aspects of banking, debt, accounts receivable, credit and treasury functions for companies with $2 billion in annual revenues.

During the 2008-2009 financial market collapse, she was instrumental in navigating both the financial and regulatory challenges her company faced and successfully resolved several IRS audits. Debbie also earned her CTP and CGMA certifications for banking, treasury and management accounting.

Throughout her career, Debbie has been an avid proponent of ongoing education and taught scholarship prep and smart money workshops in local high schools as well as teaching basic budgeting and money-savvy skills to women who were transitioning back into the workforce.

As a trained Crown Financial Ministries counselor, Debbie has provided simple and effective tools for families through live seminars at local churches. A particular passion has been mentoring at-risk and homeless youth for over a decade.

During the financial crisis, Debbie became increasingly burdened by how stressed her friends, family and church community were by money problems; losing their jobs, their savings, their homes and even their retirements. They seemed to have no place to turn – and the money stresses were tearing families apart.

Debbie’s passion began by taking nearly 20 years of money, finance and accounting knowledge and experience and put it to practice where it REALLY mattered…to help YOU get better with money.

After much prayer and planning, Debbie left her corporate career in 2013 to start a boutique educational CPA Firm in the Pacific Northwest. She is dedicated to teaching effective, biblically based money habits and stopping the generational problems of financial illiteracy in our society. Debbie has written nationally published articles, become a passionate financial blogger and presented money and compliance seminars all over the country – both in person and virtually.

Debbie’s heart-vision is to share her expertise and guide you in creating your own money stewardship lifeplan! With short, weekly interactive sessions – you will have practical, fun, affordable, easy-to-understand spending, saving, debt and credit tips and tools at your fingertips…where you are…so you can achieve financial wellness and enjoy a healthier and happier life!
