Sherry Lykes
Financial Services Professional & Financial Literacy Advocate

Personal Notes
I became intrigued with Financial Literacy in 2015. I had a strong desire to to help the women of my congregation achieve their financial goals but I knew I needed a solid wealth building curriculum in order to get this accomplished. Hence, I initially started in the finance industry as a licensed Insurance agent with American National and National Life Insurance Companies. As I consider the number of lapsed policies, I soon realized that in order for the citizens of our current society to make better financial planning decisions, they needed to be educated of basic financial philosophies.
Bio
Sherry Lykes is an NFEC Certified Financial Education Instructor.
Sherry Lykes has been an entrepreneur more than 20 years. Always being intrigued by the business world, she opened the doors to her first beauty salon, “The Unique One” located in Gretna, Virginia in 1997. Feeling a need to live closer to her house of worship, she relocated her salon to South Boston, Virginia in 2002. In addition, in 2010, Sherry Lykes founded an adult women’s mentoring group, “Sarah’s Daughters”. Sarah’s Daughters teaches women how to master themselves through understanding personality, overcoming insecurity, and managing conflict.
As these women were being healed from many of their emotional plights, Mrs. Lykes saw a further need to implement a program to help them reach their financial goals. However, in order to do this, Sherry went on a search for a solid financial literacy program. However, in her pursuit for a financial literacy curriculum, she became a licensed insurance agent in 2016 through First Financial Security, an insurance brokerage firm, located in Georgia.
Sherry Lykes is currently licensed with two insurance companies, American National and National Life Group. However, as she began to experience a high volume of lapsed policies and realizing that whenever her clients were in a financial decline, the life policy was always the first thing they let go because they did not see it as a real necessity. Sherry Lykes knew that in order to help her clients, as well as the members of her congregation make better financial decisions, they needed Financial Literacy Training.
Although, Mrs. Lykes has been in the financial and business world for some years, she has just recently received her certification as a Certified Financial Education Instructor. Mrs. Lykes is devoted to helping others establish a secure financial future and legacy for themselves and their children by creating awareness for financial education. She is especially moved by women, who are in struggle to re-establish themselves after traumatic experiences, such as divorce or lost jobs.
