How Entrepreneurs Participate in Financial Education

As a nation, we spend about $670 million per year on financial education to meet the growing demand being spurred by regulatory pressures, increased funding and social interest, and growing competition among various corporate and nonprofit stakeholders.

The various organizations that provide funding and work with entrepreneurs and concerned citizens to participate in a variety of roles. These entrepreneurs are compensated through speaking fees, sponsorships, grants from partnerships with nonprofits, event hosting, and for other roles they fulfill. It is the NFEC’s goal to contribute to our clients’ bottom line as they contribute to the overall financial wellness of the communities they serve.

Individuals

Entrepreneurs and concerned citizens form the backbone of the financial literacy movement. The NFEC has built a nationwide infrastructure of financial educators who can give high-quality presentations that meet the needs of a wide range of organizations and groups. Stephanie J. Alvarez is an NFEC Certified Financial Education Instructor and volunteers as the Program Manager for CHOICES, which is a workshop that empowers teens to achieve academic success in pursuit of their career and life aspirations. Stephanie also volunteers her time with many other organizations in the community that teach financial literacy. Mike Myer

Mike Myer has been in the insurance and financial services industry since 2007. His greatest desire is to educate his clients on what risks they may have and find ways to protect those risks. He has worked with a community program for first time home buyers, educating them about their insurance coverage when purchasing for the first time. He has also offered seminars on Medicare insurance options. Mike also offers financial education classes at his church as well as meeting with individuals from the classes for more personalized evaluations of their financial situation and developing a plan to achieve their financial goals.

Whitney is an NFEC Certified Financial Education Instructor and the founder of My Interactive Finance, LLC. My Interactive Finance is a web-based financial education portal, created to equip consumers with the knowledge necessary to manage their day-to-day financial responsibilities. Through these online videos, Whitney provides invaluable financial literacy lessons to students, aspiring entrepreneurs, and professionals.

Donna Bowman

Donna Bowman began her life of educating when she and her husband did missionary work in Papua New Guinea, but saw the need for financial literacy during the building of a successful construction business. Homeschooling her children lead to her opening a private Christian school, as well working as a substitute teacher and in academic administration. More recently, she became an NFEC Certified Financial Education Instructor and earned her Master’s of Education from West Texas A&M. She looks forward to spreading financial literacy to students, parents and families.
