Giving Students and Families Tools to Make Better Financial Decisions: Dr. Wally Luckeydoo

I am Dr. Wally T. Luckeydoo, an educator and financial literacy advocate based in Nashville, Tennessee. I currently serve as a Career and Technical Education Teacher and Work-based Learning Coordinator at Smyrna High School, where I teach Personal Finance and Dual Enrollment Personal Finance through Bethel University. I also serve as an adjunct professor of Sports Management at Abilene Christian University and Cumberland University. My professional background includes multiple awards, certifications, and advanced degrees, including a Doctorate in Education, a Master of Business Administration, and additional graduate degrees in Education and Sports Administration. These experiences have prepared me to contribute meaningfully as an Advisory Board Member for financial wellness initiatives.

My personal and professional motivation for serving on the Advisory Board comes from growing up in the hills of Appalachia, where opportunities were limited. I never had a personal finance class and was not taught financial literacy concepts while growing up. My father passed away when I was six months old, and my mother raised two boys on her own while working in a factory to provide for our basic needs. Growing up in poverty taught me the difference between needs and wants at an early age and inspired me to ensure that students and families today have access to financial literacy education and the tools to make better financial decisions.

Through advocacy, mentoring, and educating others, I aim to provide students, families, and underserved communities with access to high-quality financial literacy resources. I am uniquely positioned to contribute to this Advisory Board because of my extensive experience in teaching financial education across high school and college classrooms, my work with national organizations such as the National Jump$tart Coalition, Tennessee Jump$tart, Junior Achievement, EverFi, Next Gen Personal Finance, Banzai, and Intuit, and my proven record of building programs that empower students and communities to achieve financial stability.

It is an honor to serve on this Advisory Board. I look forward to contributing my expertise to advance financial wellness initiatives, advocate for students and families, and support educators in delivering effective personal finance education. I am committed to working with the Board to expand access, provide mentorship, and promote programs that help students and communities build strong financial foundations for the future.
