Community Engagement Training for
Financial Wellness Education Providers

Claudia Martins, Financial Literacy Advocate

Personal Notes

My life passion is to help both children and adults gain the financial wellness skills they need to be self-sufficient and feel secure about their personal finances. As Community Engagement Director for the National Financial Educators Council, I am in a position to realize that passion by training financial educators in the processes of engaging communities and participants in financial wellness events. Having overcome my own financial challenges in the past, I can apply what I learned to help financial wellness professionals develop positive relationships with partners and the media, promote their programs, and plan and organize successful events. As a Certified Financial Education Instructor (CFEI®) and Certified Personal Financial Wellness Consultant (CPFWC) myself, I assist others to navigate those training programs and become qualified to bring financial wellness programming to their communities.

Bio

Born and raised in Brazil, over two decades ago Claudia Martins left her job as an attorney and came to the U.S. with only $700 in her pocket. She faced a host of financial challenges as she struggled to achieve her own personal “American Dream.” But as she systematically worked through these challenges, Martins found her passion and life purpose – motivating others to live healthier, happier lives.

She started a Facebook group for women struggling with life’s challenges, encouraging them by sharing her own personal experiences. The women who joined this platform inspired Claudia to become a healthy lifestyle consultant and speaker, serving individuals, nonprofits, and community groups. When Martins began her relationship with the National Financial Educators Council, her next step was to become a Certified Financial Education Instructor (CFEI®), and Certified Personal Financial Wellness Consultant (CPFWC).

As Community Engagement Director for the NFEC, Martins trains financial wellness professionals in the ins and outs of event planning, media and community relations, and conducting advocacy for the financial wellness movement. Her law background empowers her to assist with legal and contract review. Claudia Martins also is fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish and is currently studying French.
