Claudia Martins was chosen to serve on the Florida Financial Educators Council Advisory Board because of her community engagement talents, ability to forge strong relationships, and dedication to the mission and vision of the National Financial Educators Council. Well-qualified financial education and financial coaching, education and experience in the legal profession, and event planning expertise also distinguish Advisory Board Member Claudia Martins. A leader, entrepreneur, and mother of two sons, Martins empowers individuals, organizations, and communities in her role as Community Engagement Director for the NFEC.
Claudia also is a strong match for the criteria used to select Advisory Board Members, which include a passion for promoting financial wellness and a background in public service. Martins’ reputation precedes her in these aspects – she has experience in healthy lifestyle coaching, financial education, and community empowerment. Financial Wellness Makes Florida Communities Stronger: Claudia Martins
I was born and raised in Brazil. In 1998, I made the biggest decision of my life – to give up my career as an attorney and start a new life in the U.S. When I arrived in Florida with just $700 to my name, I instantly fell in love with the state and its friendly people. But before I could live my ‘American Dream’, I had to overcome serious financial struggles.
As I gradually worked through and put those problems behind me, I found my real purpose in life: to motivate other people to live healthier, happier lives. First I started a Facebook group for women struggling with life challenges. Then I branched out into entrepreneurship, becoming a life coach and eventually a Certified Financial Education Instructor (CFEI®) and Certified Personal Financial Wellness Consultant (CPFWC) through the NFEC.
In 2020 I took the next step on my career path and became the NFEC’s Community Engagement Director. This opportunity allows me to realize my goal to help adults and children alike gain the financial wellness skills they need to be self-sufficient and feel secure about their personal finances. I am able to communicate with people from all backgrounds and financial situations. Being fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish helps me communicate effectively with a wide variety of contacts.
I feel deeply honored to be a part of the Florida Financial Educators Council Advisory Board. In this role, I believe I can make a real difference in the lives of my fellow Floridians and their families.
