Delaware Financial Educators Council
Personal Finance Educator and Author Matthew Mellett, MS, ChFC, CLU, was invited to serve on the Delaware Financial Educators Council (DFEC) Advisory Board due to his alignment with the organization’s mission and his extensive history of community-focused financial advocacy. With authorship of several personal finance books, financial literacy curriculum, and over 13 years of experience in financial wellness teaching and coaching, Mellett is dedicated to expanding access to financial education across Delaware.
Since 2013, Advisory Board Member Matthew Mellett has led The Saucon Creek Institute for Financial Literacy, an organization with a mission to increase people’s personal finance knowledge and decision-making skills to improve their financial stability and quality of life. With an MS in Personal Financial Planning from The College for Financial Planning, Matthew has also volunteered for the First Command Educational Foundation, providing financial education to military personnel; and the University of Chicago, giving input on financial literacy initiatives. He was honored with the Admiral William F. Halsey Award for Leadership by the U.S. Navy.
Matthew Mellett’s professional integrity, educational focus, and leadership experience make him a natural fit for the DFEC Advisory Board. The Delaware Council is eager to embark on its partnership with Matthew as we work to advance the financial wellness agenda across the state.

Personal finance author, financial literacy curriculum expert, and financial coach Matthew Mellett lives with a passion for personal finance education. His dedication and extensive personal finance knowledge positions him well to improve the quality of personal finance education across the U.S.
A resident of the Logan Square section of Philadelphia, Matthew’s dedication to education has earned him a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Lehigh University and a Master of Science degree in personal financial planning from The College for Financial Planning. He also earned the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designations from The American College of Financial Services. Additionally, he acquired a graduate certificate in Principles of Finance from Harvard University Extension School.
Matthew is the author of multiple personal finance books including Go Simple: The Playbook to Financial Security and Grow Your Money Protect Your Wealth. Matthew’s books are recognized for their straightforward approach to personal finance. Readers state his books explain complex personal finance topics in simple-to-understand language. He has been featured on The Authors Show and local cable TV to discuss his books and tout the strong need for personal finance education in our country.
Matthew is the founder and owner of The Saucon Creek Institute for Financial Literacy, an organization whose mission is to increase people’s knowledge of personal finance concepts and improve personal finance decision-making. Through research, collaboration, curriculum development, and personalized one-on-one coaching sessions, the institute provides transformative education that improves the financial well-being of its students. At his institute, Matthew’s primary focus is engaging with young workers who are beginning their financial journeys. He strives to give them the tools and knowledge they need to build strong foundations for their financial futures.
Matthew is honored to be a DFEC Advisory Board Member and plans to use his passion and extensive knowledge of personal finance to improve the personal finance curriculum of students in Delaware and across the country.
