Advisory Board Member Krystena Yancey
Michigan Financial Educators Council

The Michigan Financial Educators Council (MFEC) chose Krystena Yancey to serve on its esteemed Advisory Board as a result of her enthusiasm and devotion to personal finance advocacy and education. With a BBA in Accounting and a BS in Finance, today Yancey is expanding her role in the financial wellness space by working to achieve certifications as an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®), and Certified Financial Planner (CFP®). She launched her financial wellness blog, Financial Butterfly®, to establish a community for people who are – as she states on the website – “socially awkward, docile at networking, conscientious, and personally observant.” Being a Financial Butterfly “…is not a bad thing,” she adds.

As her passion for promoting financial wellness closely aligns with the vision and mission of the NFEC, Advisory Board Member Krystena Yancey is bringing a fresh perspective to the NFEC’s Michigan chapter. Through simplifying complex financial concepts, Krystena aims to strengthen financial health to underserved communities with an unwavering resolve. The Michigan Financial Educators Council is eager to welcome Krystena as we work together to make our shared vision a reality.

Assist and Empower Communities with Financial Education: Krystena Yancey

Krystena Yancey started college with an initial goal: major in something that makes money. But her first semester left a lasting impression that led to her calling and passion – financial education for young people. Armed with her Bachelor’s degree in Finance and corporate finance knowledge, she noticed there still remains a gap in understanding of vital financial life skills for everyday people. Thus, she discovered the National Financial Educators Council (NFEC) a year after graduation and remains eager to grow her knowledge to aid herself and others.

As she pursues her financial professional certifications, Yancey has put her passion for financial wellness advocacy into practice by presenting workshops in partnership with the Life Directions organization in Detroit. Life Directions’ stated mission is to “motivate young adults…to mature into responsible, productive adults through self-direction.” Krystena’s goal for participating on the MFEC Advisory Board is to leverage financial education to assist and empower people of all ages and walks of life and communities of color across the state of Michigan and beyond.
