Company History
Krystena Yancey launched her blog, Financial Butterfly®, in 2023 to provide a platform for introverted people to learn about and share personal finance tips and resources. With a background in corporate finance and many hours of volunteer presentations, Krystena feels passionate about empowering communities with financial wellness education. Her blog project is an effort to give introverts a space where they can be themselves, while at the same time embarking on a journey toward wealth-building and financial independence.
The name of the blog draws on the term “butterfly effect” coined by meteorologist Edward Lorenz in the 1960s. Grounded in chaos theory, the butterfly effect describes how a small event – like the flapping of a butterfly’s wings – can set off a chain of events that lead to huge consequences, such as a tornado occurring weeks later in a different location. Financial Butterfly® uses this idea as a financial wellness metaphor: tiny changes in personal finance habits made now can and will change a person’s life, even though they may not realize those effects until years later.
Financial Butterfly® also represents a play on “social butterfly,” flipping the term to describe introverts. Yancey identifies herself as an ISFJ on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality measure – a personality type known as “The Defender.” The acronym stands for Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, and Judging. ISFJs are characterized by their warm, caring nature, detail orientation, deep commitment to responsibilities, and often prioritizing the needs of others over their own.
The blog focuses on topics of particular interest to introverts, with titles such as “How Introverts Will Use Loud Budgeting to Live Boldly,” and “Introverts and the Quiet Luxury Trend are More Alike Than You Think.” Through her posts Krystena encourages other introverts to embrace who they are and stand out in their careers and lives.
