State Financial Literacy Chapters: West Conference

An expansion of the partnership between the National Financial Educators Council (NFEC) and The Basketball League (TBL) results in financial literacy promotion throughout TBL’s professional sports league communities across the United States.

In the TBL West Conference, state financial literacy chapters represent a collaboration between TBL, the league’s teams and players, and the NFEC to achieve the goal of spreading financial literacy throughout the communities where TBL teams reside and play.

Community Benefits

The TBL/NFEC partnership benefits communities by offering support to local schools, community organizations, and nonprofits in the form of donated resources from the NFEC’s top-quality financial literacy assets. The partners work together to sponsor this comprehensive benefits package for local organizations seeking to develop and scale financial education programs.

TBL teams also get involved in the movement by participating in a variety of promotions designed to build financial wellness across their local areas. For example, during games, they select a fan in attendance to participate in the Financial Literacy Quiz. For each age-appropriate question the fan answers correctly, he or she gets a chance to shoot a basket for a prize.

TBL players have joined in the effort by completing financial education activities themselves. They also advocate for financial literacy in their communities. Many players have earned the NFEC’s Certified Financial Education Instructor (CFEI®) credentials.
