Company History
Cash Money Matters Academy is a Connecticut-based social enterprise dedicated to expanding financial wellness in under-resourced communities through culturally relevant, community-centered financial literacy education. Our work is grounded in a simple but powerful belief: Financial Literacy Is A Birthright®.
For the past 10 years, Cash Money Matters Academy (CMMA) serves as a Certified Financial Literacy Education organization, delivering financial education workshops in partnership with a wide range of community-based organizations. Some of our work focuses on helping individuals understand how to use credit wisely – not to the advantage of the creditor, but to the advantage of the consumer. Through these workshops, participants consistently achieve measurable improvements, including increasing their credit scores by 50 points or more and gaining the confidence to make informed credit decisions that support long-term financial wellness.
We exist to help individuals and families build financial confidence for improved financial capability to make sound financial decisions and develop a saver’s mindset. We teach money skills that are actionable, measurable, and rooted in real-life experience. Our programs are designed to meet people where they are, honor their lived experiences, and empower them to make good money decisions that support sustained economic well-being. We partner with community-based organizations to expand access to high-quality financial literacy education programming that reflects the realities, strengths, and aspirations of the communities they serve. Our approach blends real-life application, trauma-aware communication, and accessible instruction to ensure that participants gain the skills they need to make informed financial decisions to improve their financial futures.

CMMA became involved in the national financial wellness campaign in 2017, aligning our mission with a broader movement to increase financial capability across under-resourced communities. Since joining the initiative, we have contributed by providing free comprehensive financial literacy programs which include customized case study reports and community-based workshops that reflect the lived experiences of the populations we serve. Cash Money Matters Academy has long championed the idea that cost should never be a barrier to high-quality financial literacy education that is relatable and measurable. Through our philanthropic model, we offer free comprehensive financial literacy education programs, including customized case study reports that help partners measure impact and secure future funding. By joining this campaign, we advance our mission, broaden our impact, and share data-driven insights with like-minded organizations focused on economic empowerment for vulnerable populations. Our participation demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that all Connecticut communities, especially those with limited resources, can access educational tools for financial stability.
Cash Money Matters Academy upholds rigorous professional standards in financial literacy education. Our instructors are trained, certified financial education professionals and accredited personal finance instructors trained in cultural sensitivity and trauma-aware instruction. We follow nationally recognized, research-based frameworks for personal finance instruction and use comprehensive measurement tools to demonstrate behavioral change and program effectiveness. Our accredited curriculum meets core education standards and aligns with state mandates. We use project-based learning that makes complex financial concepts relatable, engaging, and immediately actionable. This commitment to excellence ensures that our programs not only educate but transform the financial lives of participants.
