Teach Financial Education. Strengthen Your Community.
Serve Your Community as a Qualified Financial Educator.
Financial education is ultimately about helping people build more secure, stable, and fulfilling lives. To make that impact locally, communities need qualified educators who care about the mission and are prepared to help people turn financial knowledge into better decisions and meaningful action.
Through NFEC State Chapters, we are building a network of qualified local financial educators who can bring that mission into schools, workplaces, nonprofit organizations, and community programs. These educators help expand access to practical financial education, strengthen local initiatives, and give more people the support they need to improve their financial lives.
Connecting Local Needs with Qualified Educators
State Chapters help create a bridge between organizations that want to provide financial education and qualified professionals who can deliver it. As relationships grow with schools, employers, nonprofits, financial institutions, and community organizations, Chapters can help identify local education needs and connect those opportunities with prepared instructors.
Building this local capacity makes it easier to respond when a community needs financial education – whether for students, employees, families, or other groups. It also helps partners know that qualified educators are available locally to support programs aligned with their audience, goals, and community needs.
Roles and Opportunities for Local Financial Educators
Qualified local instructors serve as part of the delivery infrastructure behind each State Chapter while also gaining opportunities to expand their own professional experience, visibility, and community connections.
Depending on local needs and opportunities, educators may:
These local instructors create a network that benefits both educators and the communities they serve – helping local professionals grow their reach while expanding access to qualified financial education.
Why Qualified Educators Matter
Financial education outcomes depend heavily on the people delivering the instruction. Subject knowledge alone does not prepare someone to effectively teach financial concepts, engage learners, facilitate application, manage sensitive financial discussions, adapt instruction to different audiences, or help participants translate education into meaningful action.
Qualified financial educators bring both subject knowledge and instructional skill to the learning experience. They understand how to communicate financial concepts clearly, create engaging and practical learning experiences, guide learners through real decisions and activities, maintain appropriate professional boundaries, and support application without crossing into areas outside the educator’s role.
Our goal is to help ensure that organizations participating in State Chapter initiatives have access to top-quality instructors. Building a strong local network of qualified educators helps improve program quality, strengthen partner confidence, and increase the likelihood that financial education produces meaningful outcomes for the people and communities being served.
Qualification Through the CFEI® Program
Individuals who want to serve as qualified financial education instructors within NFEC State Chapter initiatives are expected to complete the Certified Financial Education Instructor® (CFEI®) professional development program.
The CFEI program focuses on the knowledge and instructional competencies needed to plan, deliver, and evaluate financial education programming. It covers financial education subject matter, instructional methods, learner engagement, educational psychology, lesson planning, program delivery, measurement, and professional responsibilities.
Completing the CFEI program provides the foundation for participating as a qualified educator within NFEC initiatives and for independently delivering financial education programs in your own community.
