Financial Literacy Institute Volunteers

James Truslow Adams, the New York author who coined the term “American Dream,” is quoted as follows: “The American Dream is that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.” Under current conditions some analysts speculate that the American Dream has become more and more difficult for most Americans to realize. Now there’s a financial literacy institute working to improve those conditions.

Financial literacy is far more than balancing a checkbook or reading investment theory. Becoming money savvy gives people the skills they need to live their chosen lifestyles, gain freedom and security, and truly experience what life has to offer. The NFEC is a financial literacy council that provides an avenue for getting those skills. They are leading providers of free financial education training, workshops, and turnkey initiatives. In addition, they consult with people interested in teaching personal finance to locate funding sources for such campaigns.

You may wonder why so many people are suffering from money problems. Lack of education is the answer. That’s the reason why the President’s Advisory Council formed a financial literacy education commission ten years ago. Unless we turn this situation around, more and more people will encounter devastating money challenges. Rather than pouring billions of dollars into reacting to the results of those money problems, the NFEC advocates for attacking the root cause by teaching vital, practical money management skills.

The NFEC draws upon empirical research and theory to develop personal financial literacy programs that represent best practices, and then they share those programs with the industry complimentary. This open source model builds collaborations and partnerships that truly succeed to improve financial conditions at the individual, community, and national levels.

Look for even more information and promotions during financial literacy month, which the commission has set for April of each year. Many programs and opportunities will come available during that month.
