Personal Statement

It is alarming that over 90% of the population lacks personal financial literacy, necessitating immediate action to address this critical gap.

However, challenges arise in educating the younger generation about sound financial habits and the significance of personal finance management. Distinguishing between essential needs and discretionary wants, as well as transitioning from financial dependence to independence, pose significant obstacles. Moreover, prevailing financial mindsets and dependency levels further complicate this issue.

This distinctive experience serves as the impetus for my mission to champion financial literacy within our nation. The pressing necessity for a paradigm shift in our financial approach, transitioning from mere utilization to a holistic comprehension of the interconnectedness of diverse industry stakeholders in our financial lives, fuels my passion for empowering individuals throughout their financial journeys.

We have commenced our initiative by providing basic financial literacy training to all individuals who have completed tertiary education in the country. In two years, we have successfully trained and furnished educational resources to more than 570,000 young graduates aged between 19 and 30 years. Notably, youths constitute 45% of the nation’s population, which exceeds 200 million.

Our campaign’s mission is to ensure that over 70% of these young individuals are financially equipped with the essential knowledge and skills to effectively manage their finances and make informed decisions. This objective is set for the upcoming five-year period.

I firmly believe that the establishment of the National Financial Literacy Board and collaboration with pertinent stakeholders will facilitate the realization of this aspiration.
