Personal Statement
My work is driven by a deep, personal passion for helping early to mid-career professionals build financial stability and independence. While my professional career has been in education, training teachers on how to close the gap between theory and practice, I quickly saw that the most significant barrier to a secure future wasn’t a lack of professional skill – it was a lack of financial leadership, cultivated through systems. This realization ignited my passion for promoting financial wellness, applying my expertise as an educator to empower people in their financial lives.
What truly became my ‘why’ was realizing the full potential of my own family’s financial legacy. Although I grew up in a low-income, single-parent household, I discovered that my grandmother, through sheer diligence, was remarkably ahead of her time in the 1950s, building up modest assets with her meager earnings. This knowledge was bittersweet: I realized that while her hard work was incredible, a deeper understanding of financial systems could have amplified those assets, securing far greater generational wealth. The compelling question – could my family have been further along financially? – was the moment that sparked my resolve.
Determined to figure it out, I became my own first client. As the first in my family to graduate from college and surpass previous economic milestones, I consumed over 10,000 hours of financial content, but more crucially, I engineered a proprietary system to successfully apply that knowledge and achieve the economic mobility I now teach others.
This personal journey compliments my professional experience in education. I saw so many talented professionals who, in theory, knew what to do financially – save more, spend less – but lacked the systems to benefit, leaving them feeling stressed and out of control. I realized the problem wasn’t a lack of information; it was a lack of implementation. I felt a powerful call to apply my skills in adult learning and systems-building to the one area that affects everything else: our finances.
It’s a privilege to honor my own story by helping others write a new one for themselves. My goal is to make Delaware a place where every professional has the tools not just to earn a living, but to build a life of financial independence. This campaign helps me achieve that goal by reaching the very people I am most passionate about serving.
