Cook’s background in evaluating financial systems and stewardship of public funds have shaped her mission to promote financial education and economic resilience throughout New York State.

Her qualifications, leadership experience, and dedication to community impact reflect the values upheld by the NYFEC Advisory Board.

Financial Education that Strengthens Resilience and Builds Stability: Nakiea Cook

Nakiea Cook, MBA, CFEI®, is the Founder and Principal Consultant of NC Accounting & Consulting Solutions, a New York-based firm providing fractional CFO and COO services to nonprofits and small businesses. With a background in government auditing, nonprofit financial management, and advanced accounting, Nakiea brings a practitioner’s lens to financial wellness – one grounded in compliance, sustainability, and real-world decision-making. She is a Certified Financial Education Instructor and currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration with a specialization in Advanced Accounting.

Throughout her career, Nakiea has worked closely with organizations navigating financial instability, limited resources, and complex regulatory environments. She has seen firsthand how gaps in financial literacy – both personal and organizational – can undermine otherwise mission-driven work. These experiences uniquely qualify her to serve as an Advisory Board Member, where she can bridge technical financial expertise with accessible education that empowers individuals and institutions alike.

Prior to founding NC Accounting & Consulting Solutions, Nakiea Cook spent over a decade working in the federal government as an auditor supporting the Department of Defense. In this role, she evaluated financial systems, internal controls, and compliance across complex, highly regulated environments responsible for stewarding public funds. This experience shaped her systems-based approach to financial management and reinforced the importance of transparency, accountability, and education in building long-term financial stability.

Nakiea’s goal in supporting the financial wellness campaign is to expand access to high-quality, practical financial education that moves beyond theory. She is particularly passionate about helping individuals understand cash flow, credit, and decision-making within the broader systems that shape economic opportunity. For nonprofits and small businesses, she advocates for financial education that strengthens governance, improves accountability, and builds operational resilience.Nakiea’s goal in supporting the financial wellness campaign is to expand access to high-quality, practical financial education that moves beyond theory. Her personal motivation for being part of the financial wellness movement stems from years of working with clients who were intelligent, hardworking, and deeply committed – but lacked the financial tools needed to protect themselves. Nakiea has seen organizations lose funding, families delay life goals, and entrepreneurs burn out – not because they lacked effort, but because they lacked clarity. That disconnect fuels her commitment to education that is honest, culturally responsive, and grounded in lived experience.
