Why to Participate in Take Your Child to Work Day

On the fourth Thursday of every April we observe National Take Your Child to Work Day. This day was set aside for parents to take their children into the workplace to show them what the work world is all about. Established in 1993 by the non-profit Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Foundation, this event is designed to expose children to various career options, foster workplace diversity, and help kids become future productive community members.

Every company or organization where children can safely enter should consider participating in Take Your Child to Work Day. The event can have multiple benefits – it can help kids understand the value of work and education, improve parent-child connections, build team morale, and encourage a new generation of motivated employees.

A Guide for Participation

The National Financial Educators Council has prepared a guide for parents and employers to make Take Your Child to Work Day a success. The guide lists some of the goals and benefits of participating in this annual observation, suggests tips for organizing an interesting and engaging day of events and activities, and offers a sample letter for companies to send out to employees. Remember, this day is about the future – it’s an opportunity to prepare our youngsters for productive, rewarding careers.
