State Financial Literacy Standards
States across the US currently faces a serious epidemic that directly impacts the ability of individuals to attain even the most basic level of financial security. The lack of financial literacy standards and financial education in schools has been largely overlooked by the public and policymakers alike.
Financial knowledge is sorely lacking by youth and adults alike. Financial literacy courses are missing across most school systems. And those states that do require a financial education fail to teach with the rigor required to make a meaningful difference.
Most people do not have the financial wherewithal to make healthy money decisions that set up and secure their futures. Encouraging state financial literacy standards is an important step to building a framework for higher quality financial education.
