Mike Myer
Financial Services Professional & Financial Literacy Advocate

Personal Notes
I am an educator at heart. I have been a volunteer teacher/leader for all ages from elementary through adults through various church and community programs and organizations for more than 20 years.
Having a “common sense” way of handling finances from an early age, I experienced a life changing event in 2007 and needed to make a career change. It was during this time that I became more keenly aware of the need to educate others about finances and the struggles a lack of financial education can have on a family. Since then, I have been leading financial classes at my church and am working with a local library to create a financial curriculum for the community.
Bio
Mike Myer grew up in a small town with a family that instilled strong values of working hard, integrity, and serving others. It was because of these values that he has a heart for helping others achieve their potential. Mike is an NFEC Certified Financial Education Instructor.
Though not a teacher/educator by profession, Mike has a heart for educating. He has been in the insurance and financial services industry since 2007 and his greatest desire is to educate his clients on what risks they may have and find ways to protect those risks. He has worked with a community program for first time home buyers educating them about insurance coverage options and questions to ask when purchasing insurance for the first time. He has also offered seminars for individuals to learn about Medicare insurance options. Over the past few years, Mike has offered financial education classes at his church and meets with individuals from the class for a more personalized evaluation of their financial situation and assists them in developing a plan to achieve their financial goals. Mike is currently working with a local community library which was awarded a grant to develop a financial education curriculum for the community.
Mike has also worked with local youth organizations leading mission trips to Native American reservations throughout the country to expose them to other cultures while at the same time developing leadership skills as they raise funds, communicate with donors, create lesson plans for educational programs for younger children, and provide character building activities for these teens. Mike has also provided opportunities for adults to experience some of these same things during trips to assist with disaster clean-up and rebuilding following Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy.
Through many of the contacts Mike has had regarding financial education, the comment heard most is “I wish I would have learned this 20 years ago”. Mike’s desire is to change that comment to “Because I learned ______ about finances, I have been able to _______”.
