Support the Campaign to Declare Financial Instability a Public Health Emergency to Advance Economic Empowerment

Financial instability is one of the most urgent and overlooked public health threats of our time – deepening generational hardship, widening health disparities, and driving chronic stress.

The National Financial Educators Council (NFEC) is leading a bold campaign to change that. If you’re in a position to give, your support will fuel a nationwide effort to formally declare financial instability a Public Health Emergency (PHE) at the local, state, and federal levels.

Why This Matters

Unlike legislation, which can take years to pass, a PHE declaration offers a faster, more flexible way to mobilize resources, shift priorities, and embed financial education into schools, health systems, and community services. This approach – innovative and largely untried – could be the most effective path forward for advancing financial empowerment nationwide.

A PHE designation empowers agencies to act urgently and recognizes financial education and counseling as essential public health interventions. It also expands the reach of educators and coaches who serve those people most affected by economic hardship.
