Personal Statement
With over 25 years of experience in education and organizational leadership, I have dedicated my career to bridging systems, people, and practical knowledge in ways that empower long-term resilience and agency. My work in secondary classrooms revealed a critical gap: many adolescents are faced with high-stakes decisions without the adult-level awareness or frameworks needed to fully grasp their consequences. Witnessing this sparked my passion for financial wellness as both a foundational skill and a basic right and inspired the creation of the Navigator Model™, a research-informed framework that helps individuals and organizations orient themselves, define their pathway, and navigate complexity with clarity, ethical judgment, and confidence.
“Financial literacy is not a skill to earn, but rather it represents a basic right.”
“Information alone does not create freedom. Judgment, exercised critically and ethically, does.”
The need for financial education has never been more apparent. I have watched bright, capable students make decisions that jeopardize their futures simply because they lacked guidance in real-world financial choices. I see students draining all their savings on new cars, unaware of the opportunity cost or long-term impact of not investing in higher education or thinking about future planning for themselves or their families. Others fall prey to constant online sports betting nudges, accumulate multiple “buy now, pay later” plans, or mistakenly believe that paying only the minimum on a credit card or taking a cash advance is beneficial, when in reality it compounds debt and stress. These experiences remind me that financial literacy is more than a skill set, but in reality enables empowerment, independence, and the ability to make choices with foresight and dignity. All individuals deserve access to this knowledge before the weight of these decisions falls on them.
My work is closely aligned with the mission of the National Financial Educators Council, whose campaigns to expand financial literacy nationwide provide a platform to reach learners of all ages. This partnership allows me to empower individuals, especially young people, women, and under-resourced populations, to navigate financial complexity with confidence and independence, while also contributing to the NFEC’s broader mission of making high-quality financial education accessible to all. Together, we transform awareness into action, giving people the frameworks, tools, and support they need to make informed, ethical, and sustainable financial decisions throughout their lives.
Ultimately, my mission is simple but profound: to help individuals and organizations see clearly where they are, understand where they want to go, and make the choices that will get them there with confidence, integrity, and resilience. Leading this campaign in Massachusetts is giving me the opportunity to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and judgment they need, while ensuring that financial literacy is accessible to everyone in my local community.
