Personal Statement
After spending years as a financial professional and building a successful career in technology, I have seen how the right information, access, and support can transform lives. My commitment to financial wellness is rooted in far more than professional experience. It comes from a deep desire to help people break cycles, build confidence, and create futures filled with options rather than limitations. I have lived the impact of a lack of financial literacy myself, and I have watched knowledge and access shift the trajectory of my life and that of my family.
I come from humble beginnings where money was stretched, and financial decisions were based on immediate need instead of long-term strategy. Those early experiences shaped my money mindset. With no financial education taught in school, I entered adulthood without the knowledge needed to make informed financial choices. Even when my income increased significantly and my salary tripled, I still found myself living paycheck to paycheck. I remember the sinking feeling of realizing something was not adding up. I did not have the language for financial terms or the knowledge to manage my money well, but I knew something had to change.
I started tracking every dollar I spent. I switched from using my debit card to using cash so I could see and feel the money leaving my hands. It was uncomfortable at first, but it opened my eyes. I realized I did not have an income problem. I had a spending and money management problem. I became my first reason for financial empowerment. When I later began my career in finance, I continued building on that foundation. I created my own spreadsheets, tracked my budgets, learned to save consistently, and watched my financial health change.
As I gained financial clarity and confidence, I noticed the people I loved struggling with the same challenges. I saw my friends and family repeating patterns rooted in limited access and financial knowledge. I began sharing what I learned, helping them budget, pay down debt, understand credit, and build healthier money habits. I also learned that increasing my income was a critical part of my journey toward financial freedom and that education would be the investment that expanded my opportunities. Much of what I know today was learned through trial, error, and self-teaching. I often think about how different life might have been if I had access to solid financial guidance earlier.
Becoming a certified professional coach and a personal finance educator is part of fulfilling my purpose. Joining the New York Financial Educators Council expands that purpose by allowing me to reach more people with tools and knowledge that can change their lives. Being part of this campaign gives me the opportunity to support individuals who, like my family and me, simply need access, clarity, and guidance. I am honored to serve and committed to helping people make strong financial decisions that support their dreams, strengthen their future, and help them thrive in every area of life.
