Personal Statement

From an early age, Gwendolyn Taylor understood that financial decisions have the power to shape entire lives, families, and futures. But she also witnessed how many people – bright, capable, hardworking people – struggle simply because no one ever taught them the language of money. This realization ignited her passion for financial wellness long before she ever stepped into a classroom, designed a board game, or led an after-school program. For Gwendolyn, financial literacy is not just information; it is liberation, dignity, and generational empowerment.

Her personal story is rooted in watching children, parents, coworkers, church members, and entire communities navigate financial pressures without the tools they needed to feel confident or secure. She saw how lack of knowledge created fear, hesitation, and cycles of economic instability – while those with education and guidance could change the trajectory of their lives. These experiences shaped her belief that financial wellness must be accessible, engaging, and culturally relevant, especially for youth and underserved communities.

Although Gwendolyn has built an impressive professional career in corporate healthcare – serving as a program manager, subject matter expert, and systems leader – her heart kept returning to one question: How do we equip the next generation so they don’t repeat the same financial mistakes, struggles, or limitations many adults face today? She wanted financial education to feel alive, not overwhelming. Playful, not intimidating. Practical, not abstract. And above all, she wanted learners to gain confidence – the deep internal belief that “I can do this.”

Her passion gave birth to Flip That House The Board Game University, a hands-on, real- world financial literacy experience that blends entrepreneurship, real estate principles, budgeting, credit understanding, and strategic decision-making. What began as a creative idea soon evolved into a national movement, embraced by schools, after-school programs, churches, banks, universities, and youth organizations. Gwendolyn’s commitment goes far beyond teaching rules about money; she teaches mindsets. She teaches faith, discipline, resilience, planning, and the courage to think differently about one’s financial destiny.

Gwendolyn’s involvement in the financial wellness movement is deeply personal. She has walked with individuals who felt hopeless about debt, confused about credit, or too overwhelmed to plan for the future. She has taught children who believed wealth was out of reach, only to watch their confidence soar as they learned how money actually works. She has seen families moved to tears because someone finally explained financial concepts in a way that made sense to their world. These moments fuel her mission every single day.

She is especially passionate about reaching youth. She believes it is far easier – and far more powerful – to teach financial confidence early rather than try to repair financial damage later in life. Her programs are designed to show students what is possible, not just what is wrong. By using creativity, play, and real-life scenarios, she opens doors to futures they never imagined. Her greatest joy comes from watching students begin to dream, plan, and believe in themselves.

Today, Gwendolyn is not only an educator, but a catalyst. Her purpose is to bring financial wellness into living rooms, classrooms, boardrooms, and communities across the nation. She is committed to helping people build stable, informed, and empowered financial lives – one lesson, one family, one classroom at a time. Her personal story continues to unfold, and every chapter is driven by the same conviction:

When people understand money, they gain freedom. And when they gain freedom, they change generations.
