Certified Financial Education Instructor℠ – CFEI® Requirements
Course Summary
The Certified Financial Education Instructor℠ program helps individuals acquire the expertise, credibility, and self-assurance they need to teach money management lessons effectively. Graduation from the NFEC’s financial literacy certification program demonstrates that you are qualified to teach the subject matter and increases your credibility as a financial education instructor.
Time / Testing Policy
Training Schedule: Self-paced and self-directed, or following NFEC instructor-designed pacing for completion.
Training Hours: 48 hours of education comprised of two topics:
Methods of Teaching: Teaching Techniques, Pedagogy & Best Practice.
Content Knowledge: Graduates must display competency in personal finance topics. Students may test out of this requirement or complete all required lessons.
CEUs: 4.8
Assessment Required to Earn CEUs: Pass all online, closed-book test assessments with a score of 80% or higher.
Ongoing Training & Testing Requirements: Retesting on the current version of the course 3 years after earning the certification or recertification, and within 9 months of that date to maintain good standing.
Other requirements Certified Financial Education Instructors℠ must adhere to for remaining in good standing include not giving specific investment, tax, or other advice unless they have the professional certification that allows them to do so. Prerequisite: A background in education or finance is helpful but is not required.
