Community Champion Organization
American Heritage Federal Credit Union (AHCU)

Financial empowerment champion organization American Heritage Federal Credit Union (AHCU) is driven by a mission that reaches far beyond basic money lessons. Through its Financial Learning Center, AHCU centers its work on uplifting communities across New Jersey by distributing financial literacy resources and amplifying education through digital, mobile, and traditional media. The result is meaningful progress in the financial well-being of individuals, families, and local organizations.

From an operational standpoint, ACHU advances financial wellness by using its community and online presence to extend its impact. Under the guidance of its Financial Wellness Leader, Krystal Nunn, the credit union places special emphasis on serving under-resourced and overlooked populations, while ensuring that its tools and donations remain accessible to communities statewide.

Company History

American Heritage Federal Credit Union (AHCU) is the kind of partner that cares about your long-term financial wellness. They exhibit that caring by offering free financial literacy resources through our Learning Center. Some of these, including articles, webinars, calculators, guides, and more, are available when needed to answer one’s financial questions. Additionally, AHCU regularly publishes newsletters, blogs, and digests with information to improve people’s financial fluency. When I joined the credit union this year, my goal was and is to grow the financial education program. One way is by driving participation in our webinars and seminars among our members, surrounding community, and workplace partners. Last year alone we had over 400 participants throughout the year attending sessions on topics ranging from Investment Diversification to Avoiding Scams and Identity Theft. We facilitate at least 5 to 7 monthly webinars, rotating the content with our partners from Money Management International, TruStage, and AHCU employees. Sessions are live and often include a Q&A portion, handouts, and additional resources for participants to explore. We have held over 70 webinars this year alone and will continue to offer this educational content in 2026.

Additionally, we offer access to a financial education app and digital learning platform known as Zogo. By using our access code AHCU, individuals can explore hundreds of bite-sized modules on everything from investing to entrepreneurship to understanding taxes. The best part is that we reward users with pineapples (points) that can be redeemed for gift cards at major retailers. Through our partnership with Zogo we can offer Community Development material to organizations in need of content for workshops. Recently in my role, I had the privilege of helping to build a community-based financial education program with one of our workplace partners, Mercy Neighborhood Ministries. To date the program itself has held two cohorts of about 12-22 community members. It is a 6-week program with weeks 1-4 focused on a curated curriculum developed from Zogo workshop kits. The kits include a PowerPoint presentation, speaker notes, and handouts for participants. Week 5 includes a First-time Home Buyers’ workshop facilitated by the Urban League, and week 6 is graduation. In the first cohort participants completed over 43 hours of learning via Zogo Classroom and over 1,200 modules in all.

Our commitment to financial wellness is displayed not only in our external partnerships, but also among our employees. Currently our team of Partnership Account Managers are all FICEP-certified as well as our Membership Advisors throughout our branch network. The Financial Counseling Certification Program (FICEP) equips our team with skills to guide members in budgeting, debt, savings, and financial planning. This reiterates our dedication to the financial wellness movement, as we look to build the confidence of our employees when it comes to financial counseling. Contributions to New Jersey communities provided by Personal Finance Expert American Heritage Federal Credit Union (AHFCU)

“Learning how to make my money work for me has always been my mission in life. It’s partly why I decided to study finance at the Smeal College of Business at Penn State University. I wanted to deepen my knowledge when it came to understanding the financial markets, systems, and solutions that power the globe.”
