Integrating Financial Wellness with Physical Health: Dr. Tyson Garfield
I have spent nearly 10 years as a geriatric physician and medical educator, providing both comprehensive medical care to elderly patients and medical education to medical students, residents, and fellows. I hold a DO degree from University of North Texas Health Science Center, and I am board-certified in internal and geriatric medicine. My experience extends beyond clinical practice to include educating medical students, residents, and fellows on the importance of financial literacy. My involvement in financial wellness initiatives has fueled my passion for integrating financial education into medical training.
As an Advisory Board Member, my goal is to incorporate high-quality financial literacy resources into the curricula of medical education programs. I am driven by the belief that financially informed healthcare professionals are better equipped to navigate their own financial futures and, in turn, provide better care to their patients. My motivation comes from observing the financial struggles of my colleagues and students, who often lack essential financial knowledge. By advocating for financial literacy in medical education, I aim to empower future healthcare providers with the skills they need to thrive both personally and professionally.
My dual role as a geriatric physician and educator provides me with a unique perspective on the financial needs of healthcare professionals at various stages of their careers. I have firsthand experience in developing and delivering financial education programs tailored to medical learners. My background in healthcare, combined with my passion for financial literacy, positions me to contribute valuable insights and resources to the Advisory Board’s mission. I am committed to fostering a culture of financial wellness within the medical community.
