Accredited Financial Education Instructor (AFEI)
Introduction
As a financial education provider accredited through the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), the National Financial Educators Council (NFEC) offers an advanced certification program for financial education instructors, the Accredited Financial Education Instructor (AFEI) training. Earning this globally-recognized certification gives instructors a strong competitive advantage and demonstrates their commitment to providing the finest quality of financial education.
This high-level certification builds upon the NFEC’s flagship instructor training program to send applicants through a robust preparation process. Accredited Financial Education Instructors are held accountable to a rigorous set of standards that ensure the integrity, value, and scalability of financial education design and delivery.
Graduates of the AFEI program earn credits through the IACET and the Accredited Financial Education Instructor (AFEI) credentials via the NFEC.
Prerequisite – CFEI Completion
Application to the AFEI program first requires successfully completing the Certified Financial Education Instructor (CFEI) training and earning the CFEI credential. The CFEI training gives educators foundational skills and teaching techniques that motivate, educate, and engage learners, moving participants from all age groups and backgrounds to take positive action toward improving their personal finances.
Designed around the Framework for Teaching Personal Finance developed by the NFEC in consultation with The Danielson Group, the CFEI program has two main sections: 1) content knowledge, and 2) education techniques. Graduation requires approximately 40 training hours of comprehensive lessons and successfully passing a final exam with a score of 75% or higher.
IACET Details
Accreditation through IACET means that the NFEC has been measured and approved across nine internationally-recognized categories for best practices in continuing education and training (CE/T). These standards define how to establish appropriate responsibility and control systems; take an analytic approach to identify and analyze learning needs; design, plan, and execute high-quality learning events; establish measurement criteria based on learning outcomes; and continually monitor and improve upon the learning process.
IACET was recognized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an accredited standards developing organization in 2006. The ANSI/IACET Standard has become widely recognized as the definitive official standard for CE/T, earning a widespread reputation for excellence in continuing education. Only IACET-accredited providers can offer IACET CEUs, which indicate to employers and licensing/certification bodies that a continuing education program meets the highest standards.
