Personal Statement
I have seen financial services from every angle! Along with being a mortgage broker, I have managed a credit union, a consumer bank, and worked as a credit manager at a finance company. As a licensed real estate broker, I’ve also worked as a county property appraiser in both commercial and residential capacities. After I started my mortgage brokerage, it was evident that the majority of people shopping for a home were not prepared to buy a home, nor were they equipped to own/maintain one.
In 2011, I lobbied for HB399 which mandated personal finance training (unfortunately, not a full course) in four-year public colleges and universities in the state of Texas. My published doctoral dissertation (2018) explored the need for financial literacy in higher education and has been downloaded in 24 countries around the world. I am committed to educating individuals, communities, and organizations in the matters of personal and business finance, including home ownership and entrepreneurship. I believe that strong legacies happen where there is a clear vision and executed strategy.
