Bridging Education, Wellness, and Financial Empowerment: Dr. Shameka Jones

Dr. Shameka Jones is a Georgia-based physician, educator, and community advocate dedicated to building bridges between education, wellness, and financial empowerment. Through their educational organization, STEM NG², Drs. Vincent and Shameka Jones support students in grades 3 through 8 by closing academic gaps in math and reading via personalized tutoring and mentorship. Their approach emphasizes problem-solving, analytical thinking, and confidence-building – skills that naturally connect to financial decision-making.

After seeing how financial challenges can limit educational progress and family stability, the couple began integrating financial literacy concepts into STEM NG²’s work. The organization is currently expanding its programs to include financial wellness as a key part of student and family success, ensuring that learners understand both how to achieve academically and how to sustain that success through smart financial choices.

As co-founders of the VeraRosa Higher Learning Scholarship, Drs. Vincent and Shameka Jones lead initiatives that provide scholarships, college preparation resources, and community programs for students pursuing higher education in Georgia. The organization has hosted financial literacy fundraisers to teach families about saving, budgeting, and planning for college while also raising scholarship funds for deserving students.

Dr. Shameka Jones’s advocacy for financial education began on a personal level as she learned to strengthen financial wellness within her own household. That journey showed her how important financial literacy is not just for individuals, but for communities as a whole. Dr. Jones believes that when families learn to manage resources, plan strategically, and think long term, they open the door to generational stability and empowerment.

“It’s an honor to serve on the NFEC Georgia Chapter Advisory Board,” she shares. “Our goal is to show that success in STEM and success in finance are deeply connected. Both require discipline, curiosity, and confidence. When students and families learn these skills early, they gain the power to build a future full of choices and opportunities.”
