I spent most of my life between Wyoming and Colorado. This vast landscape is harsh yet breathtaking, open yet demanding. Its beauty pulls you in, but its vastness humbles you. Out here, clarity isn’t optional; it’s survival. Every step must be taken with purpose and a plan – that’s where I learned what real leadership means. That kind of leadership requires confidence in your journey; and to have confidence you must have a plan.

The wilderness isn’t daunting because there are no paths; it’s daunting because there are too many. That same truth applies to financial management. The challenge today isn’t finding information, it’s knowing what to do with it. Money mirrors the high plains landscape – wide, unpredictable, and full of paths that aren’t always clear. People don’t need more information; they need a plan.

In my practice, that plan unfolds across three levels: the strategic, the tactical, and the operational. Strategic planning defines direction, tactical planning builds structure, and operational planning ensures consistent follow-through. Together, they turn clarity into motion.

I wasn’t born into financial confidence; I learned it the hard way. Early in my life, I faced my own financial missteps. That experience shaped not just how I handle money, but how I lead others through their own storms. It taught me empathy, and it taught me that knowledge alone isn’t enough – people need clarity, confidence, and a sense of purpose. However, in order to change, it became imperative for me to admit what was broken.

Those lessons shaped my purpose as much as my profession. They eventually grew into Unbroken, the financial education company I founded in 2018. Unbroken was born from a desire to serve people who were ready to rebuild – not just their budgets, but their belief in themselves. For more than seven years, I’ve worked with treatment centers and recovery programs, teaching financial wellness as part of the healing process. I’ve seen how learning to budget, save, and plan can become a cornerstone of recovery – taking people from a mindset of Broken to Unbroken.

I’ll never forget a participant in one of my classes who told me, “I used to dread opening my bills, but now I know where I stand – and where I’m going.” That’s what transformation looks like. Financial success in recovery isn’t about wealth; it’s about freedom, stability, and hope. When people gain clarity about their finances, they gain the confidence to face life head-on.

That resilience reminds me of one of my favorite metaphors from the mountains to the plains – the story of the buffalo and the cattle. Growing up here in the Rocky Mountain region, I’ve seen plenty of both. In fact, my family raised buffalo for many years. I was always amazed by their strength and presence – it seemed that nothing could break them. Around here, it’s well known that when storms approach, they rise over the mountains and move east across the plains. The animals know when the storm is coming. When cattle see it, they run away, trying to escape. However, buffalo face the storm and begin moving directly through it. By doing so, they endure the hardship for a shorter time and emerge stronger.

I’ve seen that same courage in people reclaiming their financial lives – they stop running, face their challenges, and move through them with purpose.

Today, my work as a financial consultant and educator carries that same spirit. I guide individuals and families through a process I call living financial planning: a dynamic, evolving approach that adapts as life does. It’s not about control; it’s about alignment. My role is to provide clarity, structure, and accountability so people can pursue their goals with confidence.

Whether I’m working with a professional family building a long-term plan or someone in recovery learning to manage cash flow for the first time, my philosophy stays the same: clarity creates motion. When people understand where they are, where they want to go, and the principles that guide them, they begin to move with purpose.

In life and in finance, storms are inevitable. My goal is simple: to help others face their storms, find direction, and move forward toward a life of confidence and peace.

We call ourselves the Unbroken.
