Uphold NFEC Standards

A key tenet of all National Financial Educators Council Certified and/or Accredited financial wellness professionals is acting in the best interests of the people they serve. This principle requires adherence to standards and a code of conduct that outlines responsibilities they must follow to remain in good standing.

Financial Educator Standards

Framework for Teaching Personal Finance outlines standards across 4 domains: Planning and Preparation, Classroom Environment, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities.

Financial Coaches & Counselors

Financial Coaching Standards & Code of Conduct outlines standards across 3 domains: Ethical Standards, Practice Standards, and Professional Standards.

Disciplinary Process for Violation

The National Financial Educators Council® developed a disciplinary process that is tiered based on the incident. The NFEC℠ will review all incidents reported, take appropriate action, and inform you of the results. The actions taken include but are not limited to:

  • Removal of Certification and/or Accreditation status.
  • Suspension of Certification and/or Accreditation status.
  • Retraining and retesting to ensure that they meet their ethical and professional responsibilities.
  • Other appropriate discipline based on the incident.
