Utmost Standards Define NFEC Credit Speakers
The NFEC’s Credit Speakers have demonstrated their skill, quality, and professionalism by meeting the criteria set forth in the Framework for Teaching Personal Finance, the first and only standards for money management educators. These standards suggest common language for financial education speakers to improve communication, and offer tools to prepare, evaluate, and hold financial education instructors to the highest standards of practice.
Case Study – Credit Lessons Taught to Simon Scholars
The NFEC had out credit speakers and materials aligned the unique needs of the youth population that attended the Real Money Experience event produced with the Simon Family Foundation. NFEC consultants provide speakers and complete event production for the financial education portion of the foundation’s annual Summer Conference, serving 100 college-bound youth – the Simon Scholars – each year in a three-day event. The Summer Conferences are hosted at Chapman University, offering life skills training and activities designed to prepare young people to face life in the real world.
Among many conference activities, the NFEC’s hands-on Real Money Experience (RMX) event stands out. RMX consists of 14 “skills booths” presenting practical financial literacy activities that give Simon Scholars a chance to practice making money decisions they’ll encounter after graduation from college. Two of the booths focused on credit education. This simulated real-world experience is proven to engage students, increase their retention of the information, and empower them with important money management skills that can improve their future lives.
The Simon Scholar events provide excellent examples of how the NFEC teaches financial education that is aligned with the organization goals. The design team creates branded, customized materials aligned with an organization’s unique needs, prepares speakers for effective delivery, and commits ongoing branded educational resources after program conclusion.
